What I do

Floating floors & floorboards

Squeaks, lifted boards, gapping joins, threshold strips and skirting scribed back down — floor repairs rather than a whole new floor.

How I approach it

Most floor calls are repairs, not replacements. A floating floor that's been laid tight against the wall has nowhere to go when it expands, so it lifts in the middle of the room and everyone assumes it's ruined — usually it needs the expansion gap cut back and the skirting or scotia refitted. Squeaking boards are almost always a fixing that's worked loose rather than anything structural. Thresholds between rooms get kicked out over years and are a trip hazard long before anyone notices. I'll tell you honestly if what you've got is beyond repair, because relaying a room is a bigger job than it looks and I'd rather say so up front than halfway through.
