The work itself is straightforward: a device that limits the opening to 12.5 centimetres, strong enough to hold against a child's weight, and releasable by an adult so the window still works as an escape. Owners and landlords ask for the same thing outside strata, and it's worth doing on any second-storey bedroom whether a rule says so or not. Fitted to timber or aluminium, awning or sliding, and I'll tell you if a window needs a different device rather than forcing the one I brought.
